Malian Lady Causes Stir in Court

Thursday, October 4, 2007

A Malian lady recently caused quite a stir at Kanifing Magistrates’ Court when she informed the court that she was faintly suspicious that she’s an Hiv-positive.

Salimata Bah startlingly revealed that she was a night worker and was staying in Boy Bansang’s compound in Serekunda where she was involved in drug abuse. She added that since her incarceration at the State Central Prison in Mile, she had stopped menstruating for three months and would like to return home because she did not have any relation in The Gambia.

Salimata was sentenced to serve a nine-month jail term upon her own plea of guilty to a charge of stealing a lady’s bag containing D4400, earrings, necklace among other items. She had also admitted guilt for effecting her escape whilst being placed under lawful custody.

Before delivering his judgement, magistrate Moses Richards appealed to the prison authorities to look after the convict, especially with regards her health.

Meanwhile, Salimata would be deported to Mali after serving her jail term.
