Kanifing United claimed the Western Union/ Ham League Championship of the Serrekunda West 2007 Nawettan series when they defeated Gamstar Giants of Bakoteh on post-match penalty shoot-outs last Saturday.

The battle for the title between the two sides started on Sunday November 4 when the first final was staged for both teams but the game ended in a goalless draw.

Saturday’s replay final, which was described by many as one of the best ever staged in the zone, was spiced with a display of talents, entertaining football and keen competition by both teams.

Kanifing United dominated the first half, which ended goal-less.

At the resumption of the second half, Foday Manneh of Kanifing United netted in the first goal of the game in the 50th Minute.

United’s lead was short-lived, as in the 67th minutes Jorom Joof of Gamstar Giants put his tea at par.

However, the rest of the remaining minutes of the game featured a well-contested battle with Gamstar having the greatest chances of going home with the trophy but failed to find the net.

The match ended 1-1, which led to a post match penalty shoot-out that United won 4-1.

Kanifing United, as champions, received D20, 00 with a giant trophy, while Gamstar Giants went home with D10, 000.
