In addition to their cooperate vision of making profits, the passion for continuous learning is high on Access Bank’s agenda.

The parent company of Access bank, as part of their strategic retail banking strategy, aimed to empower people at the individual level, recently ran a promo at the University of Benin, Delta State.

Ezaena Owwri, a student at the University of Benin won the first prize, and will be sponsored to come to The Gambia for a month to learn about the country’s university system.

Oleka Ojiogo, Access Bank’s Deputy General Manager, introducing Ezaena Owwri, at a ceremony held at the University of The Gambia’s Administration Building, in Kanifing, revealed that besides Owwri’s prize, a lecturer was also given a grant to further his research work in his chosen field.

“We hope to replicate a similar thing in the Gambia with the University of The Gambia. One of our key values is a passion for continuous learning,” he said.

For his part, the Vice Chancellor of the University The Gambia (UTG) applauded Access bank for the initiative. He added that the UTG will try to the best of their ability to accommodate Ezaena.

“If we can be of benefit to you, we will do it. We will also wish to share experiences from Nigeria, which will be splendid.

I hope in the near future, we will collaborate with Access Bank in the area of research on how banking in The Gambia can improve and how economic ventures can survive and develop in a local context,” he said. Mr Ezaena for his part thanked Access Bank for sponsoring his trip to The Gambia.
