The  Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia and Football Digest Newspaper will stage a press conference on Friday at the Kairaba Beach Hotel to kick start its plans to stage a National Sports Award on December 26 2007.

The National sports awards, the first of its kind in the country, will take place as part of a Gala Diner at the Jaama Hall of the Kairaba Beach Hotel.

Outstanding players, athletes, sports personalities, institutions and individuals, would be honoured for their achievements and contributions in uplifting the standard of Gambian Sports for the past one year.

“Award to Support President Jammeh’s Break Through’ is the theme of the Award and part of the proceeds realised from this venture will be donated to President Jammeh’s HIV/AIDS Trust Fund.

The main goal of the Sports Awards is to showcase outstanding Sports Personalities i.e. (coaches, Athletes, Administrators, Sponsors) who have contributed to the development of Sports in The Gambia, and to bring a spirit of competitiveness in Gambian sports for the achievement of Sports for Excellence.
