After standing trial on charges of receiving stolen property, Yacob Gaye, a youth believed to be in his twenties, was on Monday, acquitted and discharged by Senior Magistrate Abdoulie Mbackeh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

Yacob Gaye was accused of receiving a DVD player valued at about D20,000, a charge he denied.
Delivering his judgement in court on Monday, Magistrate Mbackeh told the court that the prosecution failed to proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

He added that none of the prosecution witnesses had told the court that the accused knew that the DVD was a stolen property. He added that during cross examination, the accused categorically denied any knowledge of a stolen DVD player. He therefore acquitted and discharged Yacob Gaye.
