Magistrate Moses Richards of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court yesterday extended the long arm of the law to one Abdoulie Bah for causing a road accident that caused grievous bodily harm to one John Avarico and Ousman Gaye.
Bah was a cab driver but was sometime ago involved in a road crash that inflicted serious injuries on Avarico and Gaye who are currently receiving medical attention in Dakar, Senegal.
Before handing down a two-year jail term to Bah or an alternative of D8,000 court fine and a compensation order of D10,000 to each of his victims, magistrate Richards pointed out that offenders of traffic regulations must be always punished as they [offenders] seem to be in no mood to heed the various calls for sanity on our roads. He lamented that the I-don’t-care-attitude of many drivers plying our roads always makes commuters think twice before joining their vehicles for fear of the unknown.
