As part of activities marking its six-year anniversary, the Youth Ambassadors of Peace (YAP) last week held a press conference at their headquarters in Kanifing.
Speaking to journalists, the President of YAP, Mr. Buba Darboe, said YAP was, few years ago, operating in only Western Region, Kanifing municipality and Banjul but that they now cover the entire country. He also disclosed that they have chapters countrywide headed by chapter chairpersons.
Mr. Darboe, meanwhile, described mobility as their major problem with regards to project site visits. “We are appealing to donors and partners to help us with an operational vehicle,” he posited.
Fabakary Kalleh, Executive Secretary of YAP, said since its formation, they have trained 280 young people and have also employed at least 10 people, adding that 25 young people did also gain employment through their guidance. He called the need for people to know clear meaning and roles of YAP. He also outlined some of their future plans, in the implementation of which, he appealed for not only grants but also partners.
