Nursery school teachers receive first aid training

18 teachers from four nursery schools managed by Gambia Tourist Support (GTS) recently completed a five-day training on first aid treatment at the GTS’ resort centre in Senegambia.

The training was jointly organised by the GTS, Gambia Education and Teachers Support (GETS) and Caring for Life Association (CIA).
Speaking at the occasion, Musa Colley, Chief Executive of CIA, revealed that since children are the most vulnerable to accidents and the number of child-related accidents is expected to rise considerably, there is a need for the course to train teachers who are custodians of school children.

He said the modules in first aid training included giving first aid treatment to victims of accidents and road safety precautions which, according to him, require collective responsibility. The schools that benefited from training were Dumbarton in London Corner, Bakoteh Nursery School and St Peters.
The training targeted teachers directly dealing with pupils between the ages of 2 and 5.
