Dr Taal urges dialogue among Africans

Wednesday, May 30, 2007

Dr Alieu Badara Saja Taal, a Lecturer at the Political Science Department of the University of The Gambia, has called on Africans in south of the Sahara to establish dialogue with their counterparts in the north so as to foster unity and collaboration on the continent.

Dr Taal, a well renowned Gambian academic made these remarks at a symposium organised by the Youth Organisation for African Unity in observance of the African Liberation Day at the Alliance Franco-Gambienne along Kairaba Avenue.

According to Dr Taal, countries in the northern part of Africa do not see themselves as having any links with sub-saharan Africa. Consequently, he offered dialogue as the roadmap to foster greater collaboration and unity on the continent.

Dr Taal also called for the removal of the AU Headquarters from its present location in Addis Abba, Ethopia.

“This”, he said was due to the fact that Ethopians see themselves more as Ethopians than Africans. For this reason, he queried the reason why Africa should have the headquarters of its most esteemed organisation in the capital of such a country.

Other speakers at the occasion included Dr Siga Jagne and Victoria Blakely. The occasion was chaired by Daniel Carlos.
