The visiting Taiwanese cultural troupe known as New Century Cultural Arts Group of Taiwan on Friday paid courtesy call on the Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia His Excellency Dr Patrick Chang at his office in Kanifing.
Receiving the delegation, Ambassador Chang warmly welcomed the troupe to the Gambia urging them to feel at home. According to him the idea of bringing the troupe came during an audience with President Jammeh together with Premier Su when the later visited the country to grace the inauguration of Present Jammeh. He posited that the troupe has been in existence for ten good years. He introduced the team leader, Mrs. Regen Necal who according to him has taught culture in many universities and also serves in women committees in Taiwan.
Ambassador Chang thanked President Jammeh for inviting the troupe to visit The Gambia. He also expressed gratitude to his colleagues in Taiwan for sending such a high profile team.
“I hope that there would be more cultural exchange between the people of Taiwan and The Gambia” he said.
Dr Chang urged the team to sell The Gambia in Taiwan when they return back home so as to lure more Taiwanese investors to invest in The Gambia.
The Taiwanese diplomat finally enjoined the team to make the best use of their stay in the smiling coast of Africa, The Gambia.
The team comprises of students from various Universities in Taiwan, teachers, office workers and carpenters. The troupe also performed in many countries across the globe.
One prominent personality among the team is Mr. Kuo the son of the Mr. Enan Kuo the man whose music was adopted in 1996 during the Olympic Games in Atlanta.
Meanwhile, the troupe alongside other cultural and musical groups last Saturday staged an earth-trembling and soul-stirring performances at the July 22 Square in Banjul in front of a record crowd. Tonight they are billed to perform in President’s Jammeh home village of Kanilai .
