Thursday, June 21, 2007

Muhamadou Papa Leigh, Sales and Marketing Manager of Africell, yesterday testified in the ongoing theft case involving Sana Darboe, a native of Wassu village in the Niani District of Central River Region.

Mr. Darboe is accused of attempting to steal a laptop that belongs to Africell. The case is before Principal Magistrate Moses Richards of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

In his testimony, Mr. Leigh told the court that on June 11, 2007, while he was at his office, he received a phone call from the security guards posted at the main exit of Africell, who informed him that the accused wanted to see him to which he consented.

Mr. Leigh revealed that before meeting the accused he saw him in the office of a colleague, Mr Ratha, who informed him (Mr. Leigh) that the accused wanted to see him about sales and marketing transactions. He then went back to his office with the accused who then showed him a list of all the numbers he claims to have sold to Africell clients.

According to him, it was there he introduced the accused to one Aminata Jallow, a dealer who then left for a colleague’s office.

Upon his return, he surprisingly met the accused in his office and asked him who authorised him to enter his office without the required permission.

He said it was there he noticed that the said laptop was nowhere to be seen. He then noticed that the laptop was hidden under the shirt of the accused person, next to his chest.

At that juncture, he alerted the security guards who immediately arrested him and handed him to the police.

The case was then adjourned to June 26, 2007.
