Says Africell’s Marketing Manager

Mr. Papa Leigh, Marketing Manager of Africell, has said that his company always set the pace for others to follow, as they continue to innovate while others imitate.

Mr. Leigh made these remarks in an interview with this reporter in his office on Friday. He said that before the coming of Africell there was a wide communication gap between the rich and the average poor in the country.

“We are the one making communication cheaper and affordable to average poor Gambians,” he said. “Since the inception of Africell majority of Gambians have had access to communication. Africell is the first and only communication company in The Gambia that has made someone to be a millionaire. And not only that, many people have benefited from Africell in one way or the other.”

He also said Africell’s latest innovations are the horoscope and the mailing service, which, he added, are very important for their subscribers.

“The horoscope service is also important as it helps subscribers to know their daily stars in a cheap and affordable price,” he said, adding: “There are other new services that are in the pipeline.”

He continued: “In those days you can’t send e-mail unless you have a computer or a laptop, but due to Africell’s innovative skills, subscribers can now send e-mails in all parts of the world no matter how remote is the area. You can do this just by using your cell phone, and you pay less money compared to Internet cafes.”

For Africell, communication is a veritable service to national development, more so as the world has become a global village, Mr Leigh noted.

“We see communication as part of national development and now that we are living in a global village it is very vital to keep in touch,” he stated.

“Africell is complementing government’s effort to bring cheap and affordable communication to the doorsteps of the Gambian people.  That’s why we will continue to innovate and others follow. Africell has covered 99% of The Gambia and now we are aiming to cover other parts of Africa in due time.”

The Africell marketing manager also thanked their subscribers for patronizing the company.

“We will keep on serving them to the highest expectations and we will never be tired of innovating new services,” he promised.
