Omar Faal, a resident of Bakau, was yesterday convicted and sentenced to six months mandatory jail term with hard labour for stealing a ram, by Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

When the charge sheet was read to him, Mr. Faal pleaded guilty.

According to the facts before the court, Omar Faal on 12th June, 2007 was found in possession of the said ram at Abuko, “daral” where the ram was already slaughtered.

The facts further revealed that the accused was arrested and taken to the Bakau Police Station, where the meat was put on auction.

In his plea before the court, Omar Faal, the accused, begged the court for mercy. He said the ram belongs to his grand father who is now deceased.  “Am also a family man with five children,” he said.

Corporal 870 Touray stood in for the IGP.
