Court gives ultimatum to businessman

Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, yesterday gave a two-week ultimatum to Lasana Bangura, a businessman who resides at Latrikunda Sabiji, to make an installment payment of  D30,000 being part of a sum of D75,000 credit he took from one Suwadou Condeh, a Guinean business woman. Magistrate Jammeh warned the defendant to effect the payment or in default, he will be sent to jail.

At the court, Mr. Bangura admitted owing D72,800, adding that he has already paid D11,000 in court.
Subsequently, Magistrate Jammeh said that the amount paid by the defendant is small, considering that the debt was long overdue. He ruled that the defendant should pay D30,000 by 24th July 2007.

While he asked the plaintiff to come along with her witnesses on the next adjournment date to proof the disputed balance of D2,200.
Earlier on, the plaintiff appealed for a speedy trial, saying she has lived in the country for a long time and she now wants to return to join her family in Guinea Conakry.
