Magistrate Jammeh Talks Tough

Tuesday, July 3, 2007

The administrators of justice are apparently adopting firm position on robbery as the vice soars in the country.

Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court late last week told a robbery suspect that since cases of robbery are lamentably on the increase in the country, no robbery suspect would be treated with kid’s glove in his court. To magistrate Jammeh, the time have now come for tougher measures to be implemented against robbers in an effort to stem the unholy practice. He expressed his resolve to adopt a firm stance on robbery and its related cases under a zero tolerance policy to rid the society of robbers or worst still, minimise the vice.

Magistrate Jammeh made these resolutions when he refused a robbery suspect court bail. The suspect, Gibriel King, has been remanded in custody at the State Central Prison in Banjul for two months following his escape from police custody.
