The trial of one Kemo Saho, who is currently undergoing trial at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court over charges of assaulting the imam of one of the mosques in Farato, could not proceed on Wednesday thanks to the absence of the accused and his counsels from court.
Kemo, who is at present languishing in state custody for many months, was charged with the offence of violently assaulting the Farato imam and as a result, caused him grievous bodily harm. But his case has suffered numerous setbacks because the defense counsels were, on several occasions, absent from court to enable it progress.
On resumption of the case mid this week, both the counsels and their client were not in court and magistrate E.F. Mbai had to adjourn it to July, 3 for continuation.
413 Sanyang is representing the Inspector General of Police in the trial. Earlier, prosecutor Sanyang expressed displeasure with the snail’s pace manner at which the case was progressing. He informed the court that the perpetual absence of the defense counsels from court was impacting negatively on the progress of the matter, adding that something must be done about the state of affairs.
