The first edition of the Insurance Association of The Gambia Football Championship comprising of eight Insurance companies, is progressing smoothly with exciting performance.

The week-three fixture wrapped up over the weekend with the Great Alliance claiming top spot on six points after their successive matches.

The Great Alliance was leading Prime Insurance by two points, who are currently secured four points. However, Prime FC share points with Gamstar but with a goal difference four to three respectively.

The week four fixtures will resume on Saturday, September 8, when Gamstar FC will knock head with the Brookers FC at the Latrikunda Upper Basic football ground. Sunday’s fixtures however, will feature Great Alliance FC and the International Insurance FC at the same ground.

Speaking to Observer Sports, Saikou B Jarju, Chairman of the Insurance Association, said that the aim and objective of organising the tournament is to foster inter-company and personal interaction, dicipline, tolerance and mutual understanding among the working life of insurance industry in The Gambia as well as making them one sporting family.

In addition, we also came up with this idea in order to bring broker’s firms closer to insurance companies as well as to allow us select a single football team that will represent the entire insurance industry in the Inter-departmental football championship, which is annually organised by NISA.’’ Jarju assured that the championship will be staged annually.
