The trial of seven Bakau residents, charged with breach of the peace, contrary to the Public Order Act, could not proceed at the Kanifing Magistrates Court, on Wednesday.
The seven were Ebrima Jatta, Mariama Fatty, Jai Bojang, Menteng Bojang, Sira Bojang and Jalika Bojang.
The case could not continue due to some defects detected in the charge-sheet prepared by the Police, as the court observed certain things that it felt might not be in accordance with judicial procedure.
At that juncture, the prosecutor of the case, Sergeant Touray, applied for a withdrawal of the case in order to have some time to make some amendments to the charge sheet.
In granting the application of the prosecution, Principal Magistrate Buba Jawo said that the charge sheet was unclear, thus the court had no option but to withdraw the case until such a time that the prosecution would come up with a proper charge sheet.
The seven were involved in an affray following the announcement of the results of the just concluded Local Government elections in which Rambo Jatta of the United Democratic Party was declared winner of the Old Bakau Cape Point ward.
