British national charged

Michael Gerald Sheely, a British national, was last Monday, arraigned before Magistrate Sagarr Jahateh of Kanifing Magistrate Court on four count charges of purchasing forged bank notes, uttering false document, selling false bank notes and giving false cheque.

According to the particulars of the offense in uttering false document, Michael Gerald Sheely between the 19th and 27th of January 2009, at Standard Chartered Bank presented 1,800 and 3,600 pound sterling in travellers cheques equivalent to D190,420.000 respectively knowing that it was false.

When the charge sheet was read to him, Michael Gerald Sheely said he never knew it was a false document. Police prosecutor, Inspector Fadera, stood for the IGP in the trial. The accused was granted bail  at the sum of D300,000 and the  case was adjourned to 23th January 2009.
