As part of activities marking President Jammeh’s birthday, the new Century Group from Taipei, Republic of China, on Taiwan on Thursday arrived in The Gambia under the Gambian leader’s invitation to grace His birthday celebration.
The Taiwan-based young talented group comprises students from Taipei University of Technology, Teachers, office workers, carpenters, who had represented Taiwan in many international occasions around the world.
In an Interview with Whats On, Dr Patrick Chang, Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia said, the group was formed 10 years ago with a view of promoting, developing and nurturing culture in the people.
According to him, during their stay in the country, they will perform at the President’s birthday on Friday. He added that, on May 26 2007, they are also expected to showcase their talents at the July 22 square in Banjul where they will joined several other Gambian talented artist. He stated that they will also performed at Kanilai and at the Miss Black 2007 grand scholarship pageant show at the Senegambia Beach Hotel.
Dr Chang further pointed out that he will host a reception for the team before they left for Taipei on May 31. He then described this exchange visit as laudable, noting that it will create cultural exchange between the two countries.
Ambassador Chang applauded the Department of State for Tourism and Culture, for including the Taiwanese group in the roots activities, adding that this will further informed the visiting groups about the hospitable people of the Gambia. He described the people of the Gambia as beautiful and hospitable. He further said that this kind of visit will create more investments and job opportunities.
