The Speaker of the National Youth Parliament, Lamin F. Bojang, has called on the youth to come out in their numbers to vote in the National Assembly election scheduled for 25 January.
Mr Bojang made this call on Friday at the end of a three-day voter education training of 30 youth leaders held at the Regional Education Office in Kerewan, North Bank Region.
The theme of the training, funded by the UNDP, was “To Vote is a Right and Responsibility”.
Speaker Bojang stated that youth participation in the country’s election process ‘’ is both a right and a responsibility’’, adding that youth should ensure they participate effectively in any political election held in the country.
He also noted that elections had rules that must be respected by young people to ensure a peaceful election process.
For his part, Mr Polo Joof, the regional youth chairman for North Bank Region, said he appreciated the role the “National Youth Parliament was playing in raising the awareness of young people as far as politics is concerned”.
He therefore urged the youth to keep up the momentum and to do their best in enlightening the grassroots.
“Young people can do a lot in politics but should not allow themselves to be used wrongly,” Mr Joof advised.
