The National Assembly member for Tumana, Hon. Netty Baldeh, has reaffirmed the commitment of the legislative body to the maintenance of peace in the country.
Tumana representative made these remarks while deputizing for the Speaker of the National Assembly at a day’s forum on peace organized by WANEP-Gambia at the Paradise Suites Hotel in Kololi.

Hon. Baldeh pointed out that there cannot be any meaningful development without peace. “Peace, in other words, goes beyond the mere absence of war,” he said.
He called for the cessation of hostilities, saying that all are winners if peace prevails. ‘In the absence of peace, all are victims,’ he added.

The Director of TANGO, Mr. Ousman Yarboe, pointed out that the NGO community in The Gambia is committed to the maintenance of peace.

Mr. Yarboe attributed the lack of peace in certain parts of the world largely to lack of democracy, good governance, inequality, religious and political intolerance and poverty, adding that if these issues are not addressed there cannot be any peace.
