YPM Organised National Child Friendly Award

The Young People in the Media (YPM) group recently held its third national child friendly award at a ceremony held at the Paradise Suites hotel, Kololi. The event was meant to recognize the role played by individuals and institutions in the welfare of young people.

Speaking at the occasion, Abdou Jatta, president of YPM described mass media as a powerful tool that can change the lives of children, adding that every child has the right to be heard and have free access to information.

Mr. Alex Dacosta, board Vice Chairman of the organization said that YPM seeks to empower, promote and protect the wellbeing of young people. He encouraged people to invest in young people. This he said is a worthy cause.

Mr. Lamin Camara, Principal ICT Officer at the Department of State for Information and Communication Technology, stressed that it’s the responsibility of all and sundry to protect the rights and welfare of children.

Pa Ousman Manneh, deputizing the UNICEF country representative, referring to the Internet, highlighted the need to address some of the emerging challenges posed by the media which can cause harm to children.

The theme for the event was Make the Media a safer tool for children.

Certificates and awards were given to deserving institutions and individuals.
