RAC for Central River Region North Pledge to Increase Crop Productivity

Tuesday, December 11, 2007

The regional Agriculture Coordinator for CRR South, Mr. Lang K Kinteh, has called on farmers to adhere to recommended farming techniques to boost crop productivity in the region. Mr. Kinteh made his remarks in an interview with our provincial reporter in his office in Kuntaur Wharf town.

According to him his function is a basic task, to help farmers to improve and increase crop productivity. He noted that there are principal livestock and crop officials who always give technical support to farmers including what to do and how to increase productivity.

He further assured the farmers that he and his staff will do their utmost to make sure farmers are given appropriate and accurate technical support on time.

Mr. Kinteh disclosed that a meeting was held recently in the region, which was attended by seven villages. At the meeting farmers revealed that one of their greatest constraints is the availability of adequate farm implements. This, they continued, has restricted the efficient use of time in the fields. As a result dry season cultivation is extended into the rainy season because the crop matures in the rainy season.

Mr. Kinteh revealed that plans are in place to solve this problem. A round table meeting is to be held with all the stakeholders including farmers, a Taiwanese technical team and the Irrigation Rice Development Project to discuss the issues and find a remedy.
