The Taiwanese Embassy in Banjul has donated 55 bags of 50kg rice to victims of a flood that hit Doho village and Sami District, Central River Region (CRR), two weeks ago.

Dr James Tsai, Director of the Taiwanese Technical Mission stationed in Sapu, formally handed over the rice to Ganye Touray, Governor of CRR, on behalf of Dr Patrick Chang, Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia, at a ceremony held in Kuntaur.

A total of 40 bags of rice were distributed to the villagers of Doho and 15 bags to Sami.

At the ceremony, Governor Touray reportedly thanked the Taiwanese Embassy for the humanitarian gesture and assured TTM of his office’s readiness to advocate good farming practices as prescribed by the technical mission.

Confirming this story in an interview with the Daily Observer, Ambassador Chang expressed the need to intensify cooperation to increase rice production in the country. He advised farmers to plant their crops, according to the schedule, in order to maximise targets.

The ceremony was also attended by Seedy Bensouda, Alkalo of Kuntaur, Mam Sait Jallow, a local government officer, and Bartey Jaiteh, District Agricultural Officer.
