The eighteen students and two teachers from Helsingore Little School in Denmark, who are on a three week visit in Kuntaur, visited the Governor of CRR recently. The delegation was led by Mr. Kaunang Camara the pioneer of the link.
In briefing the Deputy Governor about the delegation Mr. Camara highlighted the history of the link which he said was established in 1987. He further revealed that since the establishment of the link over one hundred needy students have been sponsored and second hand clothes have been distributed to the residents of Fulla Kunda. Mr. Camara stated that over the years The Gambia has achieved resounding success in expanding access to education at all levels and that the need to assist in the procurement of teaching and learning materials has grown in tandem.
A teacher from Helsingore, Per Nuggand, pointed out that they have provided several sewing machines and materials for sewing to the home science department, noting that the purpose is to promote the education of young girls.
The Deputy Governor Mr. Momadou Katim Touray, commended the delegation on behalf of the Governor for the immense support given to both the education and health sectors in the area. He added that were priority areas for the Government also.
He spoke at length on the links contribution in improving the quality and relevance of education both of which are enshrined in Gambian education policy.
He assured those gathered that the provision of educational materials will contribute greatly to the addressing of perennial problems such as adequate and appropriate teaching and learning materials. This, he said, is in line with the objectives of the Education policy 2004 – 2015.
Mr. Touray thanked them for providing medical items and equipment to Kuntaur Health Centre and stated that a healthy school population enhances the performance of both students and teachers.
