Wednesday, August 22, 2007

Abdoulie Ceesay, a student of St. Peters Senior Secondary School in Lamin, was over the weekend awarded a scholarship package of £55,000 to pursue his studies in the United Kingdom.

The scholarship was awarded by Brian Keetan’s Widow Araceli Organization at a ceremony held in Brikama Sanchaba.

Speaking on the occasion, a Dutch, Mr. Chris Alwright, explained that 39 students had applied for the award but only one was lucky.

He explained that his organization is out to support poor, deserving and needy children with special emphasis on orphans.

According to Mr. Alwright, the organization is currently sponsoring 184 students in The Gambia and is also looking after nine orphans. He added that their involvement in The Gambia could be traced to mid 90’s when they, among others, donated foodstuff and bicycles to some people through Rev. Fr. Murphy and Stephen Wick.

Mr. Abubacarr Darboe and Baba Jah, the project coordinators, commended Mr. Alwright and his partners for the scholarship package.

In a related development, Abdoulie Ceesay was also awarded a tantalizing and sparkling trophy as the most outstanding student whilst six other students were given various prizes.
