At least twenty-seven youths from the Christian Community of Latrikunda (CCLK) including five from the New Life Center and Christian Community of Ebo-town accompanied by seven senior members and Ynes Manneh, a senior seminarian, led by Richard Mendy to the Senegalese region of Thies, recently returned home after participating in the annual youth camp of the parish.
The entourage received a tumultuous welcome from their Senegalese counterparts led by Fr. Joseph in a brief but highly interactive and colourful ceremony.
The youths engaged in a conference on youth unemployment and its effects on the economy, illegal migration to the West and also youth empowerment, and marriage. They were presented with the unemployment situation in Senegal and the structures the government of Senegal has set up to enable youths to improve their skills and have access to funds, in order to become self-employed. Soon after the fruitful discussions, participants presented their views about the government plans to address youth employment.
As part of activities marking the event, the Gambian entourage visited the Cathedral of St. Ann, Diocese of Thies, and the tomb of the first Bishop of Thies. The visitors also proceeded to the Basilica in Popenguine, the shrine of Mary and the sanctuary were she was said to have appeared. The youth jointly did prayers and some sporting activities before their return to The Gambia.
