The Gambia Association of Blood Donors last Sunday embarked on a day long blood donation campaign in Ndofan Village, in the Lower Numi District of the North Bank Region. The campaign is aimed at providing safe blood for transfusion in  health facilities.

Delivering a statement at the occasion, Rohey Njie Secka, the President of the Gambia Association of Blood Donors said, “Blood is a precious gift of life and is at high demand. People have to come out in their large numbers to donate blood voluntarily. The life you save may be your own as donating blood means saving someone’s life”.
She revealed that her organisation has embarked on sensitising people using radios and meeting people on the ground to volunteer and donate blood.

She added, “Although we have been facing some difficulties in convincing some people as they are of the view that the association is trying to identify HIV/Aids persons, which is not the case”. She then urged the general public to respond to the call for voluntary donation as the demand for blood is too high.
For his part, Alhagie Amadou Njie, the Vice President of the Association, who doubles as the Chairman of Cherno Baba Herbalist Clinic in Berending village, expressed similar sentiments.

Other speakers at the ceremony were Jange Mhoum, Bakary Colley from the Gambia Association of Blood Donors, Modou Sarr, the Alkaoi of Ndotang village, and Mam Laity, the association’s mobiliser for the North Bank Region.
The occasion brought together the Jammeh Foundation for Peace Hospital Youth Donor Club, Banjul Youth Donor Club, Tobokoto Kansala Youth Donor Club, Barra Youth Donor Club, and Ndofan Youth Donor Club.
