T Systems North America, a firm based in the US has donated ultra modern Labtops and solar generators to the community of Albreda and Jufureh to enable the area to operate an internet service. The facility will be the first of its kind for the whole of North Bank Region, Western, covering the Niumis and Jokadu.

The donation was made through one Deadria C Farmer-Paullman, an American who earlier visited the community. During the visit, the residents of the two villages appealed to her to help in the provision of an internet cafÈ as the the whole of the area did not have such a facility.

According to Mamadi Faal, executive secretary of Juffureh Albreda Youth Society, JAYS, following Deadria’s return, she made it her point of duty to make sure that they got some of their needs. When the materials were available, Faal went on, Deadria met with Hassoum Ceesay, director of Cultural Heritage at the National Centre for Art and Culture who was on a trip to the US and handed over the items for forward delivery to JAYS.

Faal revealed that more of such items will be available to them if the project runs successfully as they intend to open an IT training center for the area. "Already we have got a VSO volunteer who is ready to teach at the centre,” he explained.

He then expressed his society’s appreciation to the donors for what he described as a wonderful gesture. "This will really ease the problems we face in accessing internet facilities. One has to travel all the way to Kerewan or Banjul in order to get such a facility,” he concluded.
