Hundreds of people yesterday gathered at the Pirang health post to withness the handing over of hospital equipment to the health post by a staff of the Paradise Suite Hotel, name withheld.
The gifts, which were handed over to the beneficiary community by Sulayman Gassama, a native of the village of Pirang, onbehalf of the donor, included wheel chairs, hospital beds and walking sticks.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Maline Tumbu Touray, the Alkalo of Pirang, thanked the donor for the gesture. Alkalo , Maline Tumbu Touray appealed to the Department of State for Health and Social Welfare to consider the possibility of staffing Seedy Bojang, who has been volunteering at the health post for the past two years.
Mariama Manneh, a nurse at the health post, also speaking at the presentation ceremony, assured the donor that the gesture would be put into good use.
Lamin MM Bojang, national assembly member for the area, said the donation was very timely and that it would boost the status of the health post. He assured them that the donation would be use as expected.
For his part, Sulayman Gassama, in handing over the items, thanked the donor for the gesture. Mr Gassama added that plans were underway to build a labour ward for the health post. He advised the nurses to take care of the items.
Wheel chairs were distributed to three disables , namely, Foday Bojang, Sankung Touray and Morro Bojang.
