As part of its annual school sports, the New Covenant School staged its inter-house sports last Saturday at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.

The occasion, which was an interesting one, was filled with excitement amid chanting school children.

The school children were divided in to four houses namely Red, Blue, Green and Yellow.

The events that were competed included 100m, 200m, Relay and Sack race among others.

At the end of the competition, Yellow House emerged winners with 336 points. Green House recorded 309 points to claim the second spot.

Third place holders Blue House scored 284 points while Red House came out with 249 points.

Speaking to Pointsport at the event, Mr Sunny Ijebol School Administrator of the school highlighted the importance of sports as part of education.

He said the importance of the event is to develop the talents of the children and their physical health.

“The school’s sports have been going on for the past 10 years and as long as the school is here it will be a continuous event,” he explained

He said sport is part of the future of the children as a sound mind must have sound health.

He added that, “as we are mindful of the children’s education, we are also mindful of their physical education”.

Sunny commended the Gambia National Olympic Committee, the umbrella body in charge of all sporting disciplines in the country, for their contribution in making the event a success.
