Samger revive title hope

Two second-half goals Bakary Jaiteh and Haruna Jammeh helped Samger beat Sait Matty-Africell 2-0 on Sunday, to rekindle their hope of winning the league title. The resounding win did not only see Samger cut the gap on current leaders, Wallidan, but also aided them avenged their first-round 3-0 shock defeat by the Africell sponsored side.

After a stalemate first-half encounter, Samger’s Bakary Jaiteh opened the scoring from a spot in the 65th minute, when the crafted winger Omar Jassey, better known as Waterman, was adjudged to be brought down by Sait Matty’s Omar Jallow.

Unimpressive Haruna Jammeh sealed the match for the Division Two returnees five minutes away from stoppage time with a cool strike from substitute Lamin Samateh’s weighted cross.

The Serrekunda East side now trail the leaders, Wallidan, by only one point with seven league matches still in hand.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Real de Banjul and Steve Biko fought a tooth-and-nail goalless draw at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium. The stalemate result saw the league defending champions, Real de Banjul, relegate to third spot on the table.
