As part of events marking World Disability Day, the Gambia Physically Disabled Sports Association (GPSA) last Sunday organised a day long disabled sporting games, covering wheel chair tennis and basketball matches at the Independence Stadium and Serrekunda West Mini Stadium respectively.
The commemoration started with wheelchair tennis games between GPDSA members at the Independence Stadium, which was facilitated by Mark Bullock, Development Officer of the International Tennis Federation.
A wheelchair basketball match followed this between the GPDSA BCC and KMC chapters at the Serekunda West Mini-stadium.
The match ended by 25 and 28 points in favour of KMC.
In his remarks, Ebrima Colley, GPDSA executive secretary, said this is a manifestation that the disables can indeed do what the abled bodies are capable of doing.
Sulayman Colley, president of the association, expressed confidence that with the required support the GPDSA will be a model not only in the Gambia but also in Africa in the area of disability sports.
