The 2007 Gambia Football Association Africell and Divita sponsored championship has very interesting encounters today in all the two venues hosting this year’s event.
Group A has proved more cumbersome as Banjul with 4points, Bakau with 3points and Serrekunda East also with 3points, can have the chance of making it to the semi- finals if any of the teams is able to win their third and final group match today.
Today’s game will feature a demonstration of equal contenders as the Defending Champions, Serrekunda East, will have to win the City Boys or make an early exit in this year’s competition. But Banjul who are currently leading Group A with four points, a single point ahead of East and Bakau, will have to defend their lead in order to book a ticket to the Semis. A single point can give the automatic qualification.
Bakau game against Sukuta to be played at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium might be a less competitive affair as Sukuta lost all its matches played so far in the tournament and Bakau might have an easy ride on them. But the Sukutarians will also be fighting to at least collect a point for this year’s outing.
Brikama are first to book their tickets in Group B after picking six clear points in two matches. Despite already making it to the Semis, Brikama will clash with Serrekunda West tomorrow at the Serrekunda East Mini-Stadium. West who have high hopes of winning the championship this year have 4 points and two points behind Brikama. A win or draw will see them through.
Gunjur will take on Lamin at the Serrekunda West. Both teams have slim chances of making it to the next round. Gunjur can only make it if Brikama defeats Serrekunda West tomorrow and they beat Lamin with a wide goal margin of more than 3 goals. Lamin is yet to pick a single point and are lying at bottom of Group B.
