The alleged murder of a London Corner youth, which sparked off riots in the commercial district of Serekunda in May this year, has since reached the corridors of justice. The case is, lamentably, dragging on; several weeks after its mention in court.
Sheriff Minteh, 20, was allegedly murdered during an evening drug police swoop and his alleged killer, Doudou Janneh, had been charged with murder, but nothing remarkable had happened since the mention of the case some 37 days ago.
The case, currently before magistrate Buba Jawo of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court, has suffered numerous adjournments and the status quo has apparently engendered disaffection in some quarters. It was billed to proceed early this week but could not, because the trial magistrate, Buba Jawo, was not in court.
Last Tuesday’s adjournment was the latest adjournment of the case and it followed several adjournments that now threaten to blight the progress of the murder trial.
