Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, on Monday cautioned and discharged one Pascal Deen, a Liberian national after convicting him guilty of stealing, contrary to the laws of The Gambia.
According to the particulars of the offence, Pascal Deen on the 29 March, 2007 at the Serrekunda, Suburb of Barthez, stole about eight pieces of timber valued at D80 each, from one Ibezim Rex, a Nigerian National. However, the accused has confessed that he stole the said 8 pieces of timber and has already sold them.
Before delivering his judgment, Magistrate Jammeh warned the accused.
He said that, they are always trying to set an example to deter would be thieves from this menace.
According to him, he will never exercise mercy on the accused if he ever appears before him on similar offense, noting that he had sent people for many years to Mile II Central Prison, for stealing.
“In view of the circumstance and that the stolen timber are recovered, and having spend 28 days in remand wing, I hereby cautioned and discharged you,” he added.
Earlier in his plead of mitigation, Mr. Deen begged for court leniency.
