Accused granted bail

Pap Samba Njie of Serrekunda, was yesterday granted bail to the sum of D1,500 by Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Kanifing Magistrate’s Court.

Mr. Njie was arraigned on two counts of charges, obtaining money by false pretence and impersonation, contrary to laws of The Gambia. On count one, Mr. Njie was said to have collected 20 Pounds from Momodou Jallow on 19th April, 2007 in Serrekunda in pretence that he is going to convert the money for him. On count two, he was charged with impersonation.

He pleaded guilty to count one but told the court that he did not spend the whole amount. On charges of impersonation, which he was alleged to have done under pretense as a Police Officer, Mr. Njie pleaded not guilty to count two.

The presiding magistrate therefore adjourned the matter to the 7th of May, 2007 for continuation.
