JFP Rubbishes S/K Central NAM’s Statement

Wednesday, June 20, 2007

The authorities at the Jammeh Foundation for Peace Hospital (JFP) have dismissed as baseless and unfounded the claim by Hon. Sainey Jaiteh, National Assembly Member for Serrekunda Central, that there is acute drug shortage at the hospital.

Following the claim by the Serrekunda Central NAM, journalists were taken on a tour of the hospital including its pharmacy, which was reportedly found stocked with a variety of drugs.

Speaking to journalists yesterday at the hospital, Mr. Kebba Manneh, Chief Executive Officer of JFP hospital, countered that there had never been drug shortage at the hospital, adding that the hospital even had certain quality anti-malarial drugs such as Coartem taps, Artsunate and Doxycyline. These drugs, Mr. Manneh intimated, could not be found in any other pharmacy in the country, noting that these are very expensive drugs.

The visibly furious Kebba Manneh disclosed that Hon. Sainey Jaiteh had never paid a visit to the hospital since his election into office, wondering aloud how he could come to such a conclusion on the situation in the hospital. “So how can he just sit outside there and say that there are no drugs at the hospital,” he fumed.

He however pointed out that much as they strive for quality health care delivery to the general public, they could not always provide all the needed drugs to patients.

It could be recalled that Hon. Sainey Jaiteh, while making contribution during the adjournment debate last Thursday at the National Assembly, declared that there was drug shortage at the JFP hospital, portraying the situation as so grave that “even to get paracetamol in the hospital is a problem.”
