Monday, September 10, 2007

As the Holy month of Ramadan draws nearer, the Community Assistant Group (CAG) has gone all out in consultation with businessmen and petty traders to ensure prices of basic commodities are reduced. Buba Sarr, the founder and chairman of the organisation made these revelations on Thursday at his office in Serrekunda market in an interview with the Daily Observer.

According to him, their organisation’s aims and objectives are to reduce the prices of basic commodities to ensure that the poor can afford them as they form more than half the Gambian population.
He noted that, the reduction of the prices of basic commodities is one among the fundamental factors in the achievement of peace and stability.

He stated that, so far, their organisation has made progress in achieving their objectives through constant consultation and sensitisation of the businessmen and petty traders and the involvement of chiefs and Alkalolus.
Mr Sarr further said that they have also written to Imams and other religious leaders to involve them in preaching to the masses in order for them to understand the implications of increasing commodity prices deliberately and the punishments.

He then commended President Yahya Jammeh for giving them the opportunity to establish such an organisation, which according to him, is a positive way forward in national development.
