Monday, October 22, 2007

The Gambia is expected to join the rest of the globe this Monday to hold a candlelight vigil on the theme Right to Food.

The event, to be held at the Buffer Zone in Tallinding, is expected to be graced by the Vice President of The Gambia, Dr. Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy. The world-wide candlelight vigil is part of the activities celebrating World Food Day which falls on 16 October of each year.

The World Food Day and TeleFood theme for 2007 is The Right to Food. “The right to food is the inherent human right of every woman, man, girl and boy wherever they live on this planet,” stated a document signed by the Gambia’s secretary of state for agriculture.

Meanwhile, the Gambia’s Kora maestro, Jaliba Kuyateh, Mam Tamsir Njie, the Police Band and DJ Eye will be at hand to titillate the senses.
