At least 470 farmers drawn from four villages in Kombo South, namely, Jambanjelly, Sanyang, Tujereng and Jamburr were lately sensitised on HIV/AIDS at training organised by the Nerica in collaboration with the National Aids Secretariat (NAS).

The training, sponsored by the African Development Bank was designed to increase awareness on the pandemic.

Speaking at the opening of the training, the Divisional Aids Co-ordinator, Mr Babou Jimba Jobe, elucidated that the training was conceived and organised with the chief goal of sensitising youths and farmers especially rice growers on the worrisome disease.  He implored the participants to assign themselves the task of making good use of the knowledge gathered at the training.

Mr Sheikh Omar Faye, a facilitator emphasised the importance of the training, lamenting that when farmers are affected with the virus the level of production will automatically decline.

Mrs Awa Sanyang, a public health officer at Brilkama Health Centre highlighted the dangers of STIs, adding that if contracted the disease should be treated early before it goes beyond control.
