Teenage Mother Caught After Dumping Baby

As baby dumping once again threatens to rear its ugly head, The Point has gathered from dependable sources that a 15-year-old girl of Wellingara village in Kombo North was last Thursday reportedly caught in an attempt to kill her newly-born baby. According to the sources, the 15-year-old girl (name withheld) reportedly threw her newly-born baby in a toilet on 1st November shortly after giving birth to it. Sources say the girl’s move was in a desperate attempt to get rid of the baby. According to Olimata Bojang, the mother of the girl, she was not in the know that her daughter was pregnant. She informed this paper that it was in the morning of Thursday that the daughter informed her that she was going to the toilet. “When she emerged from the toilet, I heard a child crying inside the latrine,” she related, adding that another lady, who also went to the same toilet, came back running to say that she had heard the cry of a baby inside the toilet. “We called the Fire and the Ambulance Services who later retrieved the child. The child was treated and is still alive,” she added. Meanwhile, at the time of writing this piece, the 15-year-old girl was still under police custody. Author: By Yai Dibba
