Hearing Begins in Theft, Firearm Case

Hearing has begun in the trial of a Yundum man who was arrested by the IGP and handed over to the police in Yundum on suspicion of stealing cement from Boto Construction Company.

Rendering his account of the story at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, Corporal Babucarr Saine, a police officer attached to Yundum police station cast his mind back to 28 June 2007.

“While on duty with my colleague on this particular day, the Inspector General of Police alongside other officers brought in Bojang and according to the officers, he was found stealing cement from Boto Construction Company. It was later discovered that the accused was also in possession of a single barrel gun. When asked why he was keeping the gun, he replied that he was a watchman and the gun was for self-defense,” testified officer Saine.

The case, presided over magistrate Edrisa Mbai, continues.
