Pa Babou Sarge, Resident Manager of Sarge’s Hotel yesterday condemned the behaviour of the Guinean National team for vandalising their properties, following a brawl between the staff of the hotel and the Guinean football team.
Speaking to the Daily Observer at his office, Mr. Sarge said everything started when the members of the Guinean team stormed the entertainment place, and asked them to stop drumming as their players were tired and sleepy.
According to him, at first the Guineans were part of the show, dancing and rejoicing, but all of a sudden they decided to do otherwise.
Mr. Sarge said when his people refused the request made by the Guineans, “they started attacking my staff and the securities. During the fracas our guests were scared and left the hotel. Few of our guests have in fact decided to leave the hotel for other hotels because of the fighting. We tried to contact the Gambia Football Association, but none of them respond to our call. Up to now no GFA official paid us a visit, even though we wrote a formal letter to them”.
He added that his hotel will not host any football team, because of the behaviour of the Guineans and the GFA for snoring our call. This, he said, may have a negative impact on the hotel, which he indicated could spoil their business.
Mr. Sarge further revealed that the soldiers at the TDA were also alerted to intervene, but only two came and could therefore not control them.
“The Guineans also came with prostitutes to the hotel which is not allowed and when the receptionist wanted to stop them they used broken bottles to attack him, but luckily he was not wounded. One of the securities was also attacked by the prostitutes when he tried to stop them. They also brought drinks outside which is against the rules of the hotel,” he narrated.
Julie Williams, a British tourist also condemned the behaviour of the Guinean team, saying they have not acted maturely. “I saw ten of their players with prostitutes entering the hotel. If this happened in my country they would have been arrested and questioned for the act,” she indicated.
