Fans of Syli Nationales of Guinea have expressed disappointment over what they described as a poor display from the host team during Sunday’s 2008 African Cup of Nations qualifiers match played at the Stade du 28 September in Conakry.
The home crowds who were full of energy and confidence prior to the start of the mouth-watering fixture were later muted by Scorpions toiling spirit that saw the visitors come twice from behind to clinch a 2-2 draw with the seemingly over-confident host side.
"We earlier hyped the fixture hoping that we could just go and fetch an easy win considering the caliber of players in our team. But things just turned the other way and I am least happy with the result. I think Gambia proved a better side and I am really astonished that it was the team we defeated in Banjul," disappointed fan Suleiman Barry told Observer Sports shortly after the match.
Ansumana Bangura, another Guinean fan, said: "The Guinean team was not business-minded and they were made to pay the price. We did not see what we expected and I think the Gambian side did well considering that they were not only playing against some highly-rated professional players, but also against thousands of home crowds who were later gripped with utmost disappointment."
Gambia’s effort to clinch a 2-2 draw with Guinea saw the angry home fans throw objects to the Syli Nationales as they drove off from the jam-packed stadium on Sunday.
Guinea’s next fixture will see them travel to Algeria on June 16, while Cape Verde will host Scorpions in the same weekend in Praia.
