Firidawsy Village in Niani Constituency in Central River Region has become renowned entry and exit route for cross border armed robbery incidents.
Armed robbery in Niani district, especially at the Wassu Lumoo, has become a grave concern for the natives and continues to pose threat, owing to its strategic location as a confluence for business activities with people of different background.
Hon Ebrima Manneh, NAM for Niani, said the menace has attracted attention, saying that efforts are being made to put a police post at Firidawsy Village. Hon Manneh told the Daily Observer that Wassu experienced the burgling of shops in three successful incidents of armed robbery few weeks ago. He said the criminals fled into Senegal through Firidawsey Village in all the three cases. Hon Manneh added that personally lodged the matter with the Department of State for Interior, the Inspector General of Police and the Department of State for Defence.
He disclosed that a Mauritanian businessmen in Wassu, has pledged for the construction of the police post. He indicated that government is ready to send security personnel to safeguard the lives and properties of the people in the area.
Meanwhile, the Niani Parliamentarian appealed to members of his electorate to be vigilant and report any one suspected of criminal activities without hesitation.
