6 kidnappers convicted

The six people involved in the kidnapping of Mr Jianzhong Xu, a national of the People’s Republic of China were on Wednesday convicted to 19 years imprisonment by Magistrate Moses Richards of the Bundung Magistrates Court.

Of the six, four, namely: Zaid Haled Wahdi, Ahmed Ibrahim, Imad Zaib, Husa Gamlasel, are Lebanese nationals while Obiora John Nwobodo and William Denial Oseni are Nigerian nationals.

Appearing before Principal Magistrate Moses Richard of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court, all the six pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against them.

They were each convicted to ten years imprisonment on count one, seven years on count two, and two years imprisonment on count three.

They were also ordered to compensate Mr Xu, the victim, the sum of D25, 000 or in default to serve three years imprisonment. 543 Sergeant Touray represented the Inspector General of Police.

It could be recalled that Mr Xu was kidnapped two weeks ago and his kidnappers demanded 5 million Euros in order to release him.
