Alhagi Buba Jatta, a renowned Gambian golfer cum banker, over the weekend, emerged as a winner of an open ‘air ticket’ to travel to Switzerland after he finished first in a major golf competition organised by SN Brussels in the Senegalese capital, Dakar.
The two-day international competition brought together more than 236 golfers drawn from more than 10 countries, including the host, Senegal, Belgium and France.
In the midst of tactful professional and amateur golf players, Jatta put up a stunning performance which saw him finish at the top spot. The victory earned Jatta an open air ticket to Switzerland where he will take part in another highly-prized golf championship earlier next year.
Speaking to Observer Sports shortly after his return from Dakar, Buba Jatta expressed his delight at being crowned the winner of the keenly competed championship. “I felt very delighted to emerge a winner and I will call on the general public to come forward and participate in golf which is as important as any other sporting discipline”, Jatta said.
Jatta, who won a similar major golf trophy in 2001, also commended his employer, the International Bank for Commerce (IBC) for facilitating his successful trip to the championships.
