The two athletes that represented The Gambia at the World Athletics Championship in Osaka, Japan, have kissed the bi-annual championship a goodbye having crashed out at the heats stage over the weekend.
The renowned Gambian marathoner, Ansu Sowe, finished at 12th position in the Heat I of the men’s 1,500 metres on Saturday beating only one athlete. The result fell short of the required for the next stage. Fatou Tiyana followed his Gambian counterpart on the sideline when she could only manage 3:50m, finishing seventh in the Heat I of the women’s 100 metres.
The Gambian duo were accompanied to the Japan Championship by Fred Evans Lloyd and Dodou Joof, President and the Secretary-General of the Gambia Athletics Association, respectively.
